#3
Cooperate to Own the Future
When markets and government safety nets fail, people band together, organize, and demonstrate possibilities for a better world. What can citizens do if their government does not invest sufficiently in addressing structural inequalities and racism, regulating large technology companies, or developing digital infrastructure? They don’t have any other option but to rely on each other. Things that were previously thought to be impossible can become common sense in times of crisis: the Great Depression gave rise to the original New Deal. The term “platform co-ops” refers to organizations that integrate cooperative principles in the digital economy. They have the potential to become the new common sense, providing better employment opportunities now!
This course starts to equip students with the knowledge they need to participate as cooperative entrepreneurs in the rapidly growing new economy.
