Mario De Conto – Organization of Brazilian Cooperatives (OCB)

Hello, my name is Mario de Conto, and I’m from Porto Alegre in southern Brazil. I serve as the director of faculty related to the Organization of Brazilian Cooperatives in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. I am also coordinating a research project focused on platform cooperatives throughout Brazil. At our organization, we are deeply engaged in studying the platform cooperative movement and actively support groups interested in this business model. Our efforts include working with Uber drivers in Porto Alegre and collaborating with riders in a worker cooperative. Our research extends to collaborating with international and domestic researchers on the labor rights of workers within this sector. Brazilian legislation includes specific laws regarding worker cooperatives, and our project aims to explore how these laws can be applied to enhance platform cooperatives across the country.
