Lindsey Lusher Shute is CEO of the Farm Generations Agricultural Cooperative and co-owner of Hearty Roots Farm in New York. Farm Generations offers GrownBy, a software platform for farmers that will launch for the 2020 farming season. GrownBy helps farmers organize direct market sales through an online marketplace, and will help farmers build the overall market for locally and sustainably grown produce through consumer campaigns. Digital food sales are critical and farmers’ survival depends on their ability to build equity and ownership in this marketplace. Current platforms are destabilizing and extractive for farmers who are already at risk under climate and market changes. Farm Generations and GrownBy will help these growers gain stronger footing, strengthening farm communities and national food systems. Before FarmGen, Lindsey co-founded the National Young Farmers Coalition and served as executive director for ten years.
