Bio

Laurie (Lio) Wayne fled 20th-century Silicon Valley for the wide open skies of North America’s Great Basin (land of the Northern Paiute people). She is a former organic farmer, food hub founder, and English teacher. She is currently the director of the nonprofit Open Food Network USA, which is part of a global community of techies, farmers, foodies, and good-hearted people who take care of an open-source commons of software, knowledge, and connections made to support local food systems everywhere. At various times she has worked as a bike messenger, programmer, field enumerator, and dishwasher. She is big on teamwork, learning, problem-solving, and making the world a better place. She currently makes her home on Wiyot land in northern California. Her podcast series exploring community farms and food webs that reject the assumptions of capitalism and industrial agriculture will drop in the fall of 2023.
