Solidarity Gaps: Why French Nannies Want Their Own Platform Cooperative

Maïmonatou Mar’s report follows French nannies as their job search moves from word of mouth to care platforms such as Bébé Nounou, Yoopies, and Nounou Top. What looks like easier matching often becomes extra unpaid work such as writing profiles, checking messages, paying platform fees, and trying to understand opaque ranking systems. For many nannies, especially migrant women, this shift weakens the informal networks that once helped them find work through children, colleagues, former employers, and community ties. Mar calls these breakdowns “solidarity gaps.” The report argues that platform cooperatives such as Gribouilli could restore trust, reduce isolation, and build hiring systems around mutual aid rather than platform extraction.
