Faiza Haupt

My name is Faiza Haupt from Cape Town, South Africa. I was the first woman Uber driver in the country. In 2016, I was attacked by a rider, which led me to leave the platform. However, I remain actively involved in supporting Uber drivers by helping them form an association. We have discussed the potential of organizing into cooperatives, and that’s the direction we are now pursuing. Unfortunately, the violence has continued with numerous attacks and even deaths among Uber drivers, making the platform increasingly dangerous. Our goal is to take control by transitioning to a cooperative model, effectively placing platform ownership in our own hands.
