Bio

Stuart Fulton is Director of Development at Comunidad y Biodiversidad A.C. (COBI) and co-founder of PescaData. With a background in oceanography, Stuart has over 13 years of experience leading marine conservation, sustainable fisheries management, and community-driven initiatives across Mexico, including marine reserve programs in Baja California, the Gulf of California, and the Caribbean. As a 2025/2026 Fellow at the Institute for the Cooperative Digital Economy (ICDE), Stuart investigates the role of digital platforms in driving investment into small-scale fishing cooperatives and the blue economy in Latin America. His work explores how platforms like PescaData can connect cooperatives with impact investors by standardizing documentation of community-led solutions. Grounded in platform cooperativism and conservation finance, his research investigates how digital tools can improve investment readiness, promote economic democracy, and support sustainable ocean resource management. He coordinates operational strategies, builds funder relationships, develops scientific research, and designs digital solutions for small-scale fisheries. Previously, he served as Executive Coordinator for Alianza Kanan Kay, a multi-stakeholder initiative focused on implementing networks of marine reserves in the Mexican Caribbean to support sustainable fisheries and biodiversity conservation.
