Bio

Nighat is a researcher at Aapti Institute working at the intersection of artificial intelligence, labor, and digital governance. Her research examines how generative AI is reshaping gig work, data work, and labor conditions across the Global South, with attention to the hidden workers and outsourcing chains that underpin AI systems. She also studies digital sovereignty, asking how regions with distinct regulatory traditions can build more equitable, rights-based, and locally grounded approaches to technological development. At Aapti, she has contributed to research on labor exploitation and governance gaps in AI supply chains across Africa, Southeast Asia, and South Asia, while advocating for worker voice in policymaking. Her broader interests include responsible business, platform power, tech justice, and the political economy of technology.
