Agricultural technologist by training, it is in the post-civil war context of El Salvador that Martin entered the world of the social economy. He has since been participating in several collective endeavors at the local and international level. He worked a dozen years as a cooperative developer where he demonstrated a keen interest for projects that ventured off the beaten paths. For the last 18 months, he has been leading C.I.T.I.E.S. a knowledge and innovation transfer center on the social economy that facilitates cross-pollination processes between the cities of Seoul, Barcelona, Puebla, and Montreal.
