Bio

Kauna Malgwi is a Nigerian labor organizer and leader in the emerging African Content Moderator Union, focused on advocating for workers’ rights in Kenya and Nigeria. She gained international attention after suing Facebook for human and labor rights violations, a case that highlighted the challenges faced by those in the tech industry. Malgwi has also spoken at the European Parliament, where she championed labor rights for digital workers.

For her 2026–2027 ICDE Fellowship, Kauna Malgwi will produce research documenting how AI-driven platform labor generates structural mental health harm among content moderators in the Global South, centering the African Content Moderators Union and the African Tech Worker Cooperative as case studies of worker-led collective care, union organizing, and cooperative responses to extractive digital labor regimes.
