James Gomez is a political scientist, democracy scholar, and Regional Director of Asia Centre, a leading civil society research institute headquartered in Bangkok with regional offices across Southeast Asia. He has more than 25 years of experience in academia, public policy, and human rights, having held leadership positions at universities, think tanks, intergovernmental organizations, and NGOs throughout the Asia-Pacific region. His research focuses on democracy, elections, media, digital rights, and civil society in Asia. Dr. Gomez is the author of several books on politics, media, and freedom of expression and is a frequent commentator on regional affairs. Originally from Singapore and based in Bangkok, he works to strengthen democratic governance and human rights through research, advocacy, and capacity building.
