Prof. Dr. Igor Calzada is Full Professor of Interdisciplinary AI Economics and Innovation Systems & Policies at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), where he is also Principal Investigator in the Department of Public Policy and Economic History. An Established Researcher (R3), his work critically examines the intersection of AI economics, data cooperatives, and innovation governance, focusing on how these models can strengthen democratic resilience and territorial development. A Fulbright Scholar in California and Principal Research Fellow at Cardiff University/WISERD, he has advised the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (AI Watch), UN-Habitat’s People-Centered Smart Cities, the University of Oxford’s Future of Cities program, and Mondragon Cooperatives.
