Gilberto Carvalho serves as the Secretary for Solidarity Economy in the Federal Government of Brazil. Carvalho began his career as a metalworker and became involved in the union movement, where he played a prominent role in organizing workers’ struggles during the military dictatorship. He later joined the Workers’ Party (PT), where he served as a leader and advisor for over three decades. Carvalho was Chief of Staff for two Brazilian Presidents, Lula da Silva and Dilma Rousseff, and played a key role in implementing various social programs, such as the Bolsa Família and the Mais Médicos initiatives. As Solidarity Economy Secretary, he is promoting sustainable economic practices and advocating for fair and inclusive development in Brazil.
