Fabio Virgilio earned his Ph.D. in Communication, Social Research, and Marketing from Sapienza University of Rome, focusing on the intersections of platform studies and digital media, particularly in platform cooperativism, data activism, and forms of digital activism. His doctoral research, funded by Italy’s Ministry of University and Research, proposed guidelines for co-designing a model based on platform cooperativism with local communities and stakeholders. This initiative seeks to bolster the natural, historical, and cultural heritage of the municipalities around Matera in the Basilicata region of Southern Italy by developing a sustainable model for tourism. Currently, he is a part of CulTurMedia Legacoop’s Presidency and Management Office, leading research and project coordination efforts to enhance cooperatives through innovative digital platforms and fostering community involvement.
