Bio

Christine Gerber is a researcher at the Berlin Social Science Center (WZB) in the research group ‘Globalization, work, and production’. After studying political science, her research background now lies in the sociology of work. Against this background, she investigates the changes in the world of work; more specifically, the precarization of work and changes in work control. One of her main topics is about platform work, on which she is currently completing her doctorate. To this end, she has empirically studied crowdwork platforms in Germany and the US that organize microtasks and macrotasks. In addition, she has also conducted interviews and surveys with crowdworkers themselves. Aside from the focus on platform work, she has also been involved in research projects investigating changes in traditional sectors, including industrial manufacturing and logistics, and currently the health sector.
