To build a just, democratic and equitable economy, (1) we must have democratic control of capital by its users not by investorseven benevolent investors; and 2) we must insist that capital for cooperatives be designed to support democratic ownership and not undermine it.
Christina Jennings is the Executive Director of Shared Capital Cooperative, a national CDFI loan fund committed to building a democratic economy by investing in cooperative enterprises. Shared Capital is cooperatively owned by 225 coops in 35 states. Christina has worked for 20 years in US and international community finance.
