Andrea Peña Calvin is currently a Ph.D. student in computer science at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Her research spans computer science, data science, and social research, focusing on characterizing and measuring the activities and impact of blockchain-enabled online communities, particularly Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs). Andrea investigates how DAOs operate and their strategic practices, with a keen interest in their innovative governance processes and the social, economic, and power dynamics within the DAO ecosystem. As an ICDE Fellow, she explores the cooperative values embedded within DAOs, analyzing their parallels and divergences from traditional cooperative structures. Andrea’s work contributes valuable insights to the discourse on cooperative principles and their application in innovative organizational models like DAOs.
