Bio

Ana Margarida Esteves is Coordinator of the Sustainable Societies research group at the Center for International Studies at Iscte – University Institute of Lisbon, where she also serves as a Guest Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Economy.

She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from Brown University and has held visiting fellowships at the Université Catholique de Louvain-la-Neuve and Scuola Normale Superiore. Her academic work spans the U.S., Brazil, and Malaysia, with past roles at institutions such as Tulane University. Her research explores how grassroots responses to systemic crisis—like commoning, solidarity economies, and transition movements—scale across borders to reshape economic and institutional structures.
