Bio

Alejandro Fortuny-Sicart is a Ph.D. student funded by the ERC Starting Grant “Prospera” project at the University of Vigo, Spain, and a member of the research group “Post-Growth Innovation Lab”. His Ph.D. focuses on challenging conventional organizational theory by studying platform cooperatives and recuperated enterprises. He aims to provide insights into cooperatives as self-organized responses to multinational companies’ abuses. As an ICDE Fellow in 2024, Alejandro’s research centers on Coop Cycle, and is distinguished by 18 months of participant observation, document analysis, and 25 semi-structured interviews conducted across various countries. His work offers a longitudinal perspective on platform cooperatives globally, where cooperative values intersect with technology, and democratic governance to balance political, economic, and member expectations.
