Bio

Karol Ilagan is an assistant professor and chair of the Department of Journalism at the University of the Philippines Diliman in Quezon City, where she teaches investigative reporting and data journalism.

Before joining academia full time, she worked at the Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism, a Manila-based nonprofit newsroom, where she reported and later led the Editorial Desk. Ilagan is a member of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists and has been a fellow of the Pulitzer Center’s Rainforest Investigations Network and AI Accountability Network.

Her work focuses on investigative journalism, data-driven reporting, and accountability. In addition to her academic role, she continues to work as an editor with the Pulitzer Center, supporting journalism projects with international and public-interest dimensions.
