anjira Sombatpoonsiri is a political scientist at Chulalongkorn University specializing in civil resistance, youth movements, and authoritarian politics in Southeast Asia. Her research examines how protest movements adapt to repression, including the strategic use of humor, digital media, and cultural performance. She is the author of Humor and Nonviolent Struggle in Serbia (Syracuse University Press), a widely cited study of creative resistance under authoritarian rule. Her current work focuses on Thailand’s pro-democracy movements, digital repression, and the evolving relationship between activism and state power. Janjira’s scholarship bridges theory and practice, contributing to global debates on democratic resilience and contentious politics.
