Bio

Ben Vershbow is a leader in open knowledge, digital culture, and the digital commons. Over more than two decades, he has shaped how libraries, museums, and public knowledge institutions engage with technology through leadership roles at the Wikimedia Foundation, the New York Public Library, and the Institute for the Future of the Book. At Wikimedia, he directed global programs connecting Wikipedia with education, cultural heritage institutions, and civil society, while advancing partnerships that broaden access to trustworthy knowledge. He currently serves as Research Fellow at the GLAM-E Lab at NYU Law’s Engelberg Center on Innovation Law & Policy, and is in the process of establishing a new organization (As We May Think) devoted to strengthening the digital commons in the age of generative AI.
