Bio

Safiya Husain, the Chief Impact Officer & Co-Founder of Karya, has a diverse background in humanitarian work and research. Growing up in post-conflict regions, she developed a profound commitment to driving large-scale livelihoods change. Safiya holds a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from Sarah Lawrence College, where she was involved in community engagement and also interned at the UN.

After co-founding two Indian companies, Safiya transitioned back to research, contributing to organizations like 3ie. She completed an M.Sc. in Evaluation and Applied Research at Claremont Graduate University, working as an evaluation consultant for international entities. Later, at STiR Education, she served as Associate Head of M&E, leading significant research projects.

Currently, at Karya, Safiya spearheads their research and social mobility initiatives. She fervently believes in amplifying community voices through research and harnessing the transformative power of listening.
