Bio

Michelle Nie is a visiting fellow with the Technology and National Security Program at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS). Her work focuses on, among other things, how to govern AI as a global public good to ensure its benefits are spread widely. Prior to CNAS, Michelle worked on global AI capacity-building initiatives at UNESCO. She has also researched the intersection of competition policy and emerging technology with the Open Markets Institute, with a particular focus on dismantling concentration of market power in cloud computing. Michelle is also the co-founder of Women in Safety and Ethics (WISE), a global community for women in responsible AI. She holds a master’s degree in public affairs from Sciences Po in Paris and a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
