Kaya Genç is a writer and journalist based in Istanbul, with a Ph.D. in English Literature. He is the author of The Lion and the Nightingale, Under the Shadow, An Istanbul Anthology, and Macera, and his work has appeared in The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Guardian, and The Times Literary Supplement, among others. A European Press Prize laureate, his reporting and essays explore politics, identity, and social change in Turkey. Genç has contributed to international discussions on censorship, media, and democracy as an editor with Index on Censorship and The Dial. His work bridges literary journalism and historical inquiry, often examining collective memory, youth movements, and the social impacts of political transformation.
