Bio

Nashin Mahtani is the Co-Director and Lead Designer of PetaBencana.id [Disaster Map Indonesia], a platform developing methods and integrated social software infrastructures to support democratic practices for climate change adaptation. Through an investigative design methodology, she leads a multidisciplinary design research team in developing real-time visualizations of disaster events to support community-based risk reduction and strengthen capacities for civic co-management. She also creates data visualization strategies and new representational forms to explain humanitarian information and communication technologies and systems. Nashin is also the research director of anexact office, a design research atelier based in Jakarta and Berlin, where she leads the office’s exhibition-led inquiry, The Architecture of the Brain. Her applied research and design work investigates the relational complexities of urban infrastructural systems, political economies of computation, practices of solidarity for climate adaptation, visual and spatial cultures, and neuroscience.
